There are four basic principles of health care: accessibility, quality, continuity of care, and cost containment. Armor is fully committed to these principles by delivering a health care system that is comprehensive, ethical and effective, thereby providing an unparalleled advantage in the industry.
Physician Owned
As a physician-owned company, Armor provides a quality of service that is unlike most companies in the correctional health care industry. Incarcerated individuals receive the same level and quality of care and attention that is found in the communities we serve.
Utilization Management
Armor is an affiliate of Medical Care Consortium, Inc. (MCCI), a Florida-based company that specializes in utilization management. MCCI offers integrated outpatient health care services with a 16-year history of exceptional service performance providing health management services for commercial clients including Humana, Blue Cross/Blue Shield, Cigna and Vista Health Plan. This affiliation with MCCI allows Armor to reduce the costs of off-site hospital visits, specialty care and diagnostic services, which are areas of significant importance for our clients.
Accreditation
Armor provides health services in accordance with the National Commission on Correctional Healthcare (NCCHC) and the American Correctional Association (ACA) standards. We embrace the idea of forming a partnership with each client to achieve and maintain accreditation through these organizations and other state and local accrediting agencies. Armor's corporate leadership team has extensive experience in the accreditation process and provides corporate support for our clients during the accreditation and re-accreditation process.
Use of Hospitalists
Hospitalists are utilized as part of Armor's cost effective strategy. The hospital-based physician network ensures that patients receive the appropriate medical care required and return to the designated facility in a timely manner to help eliminate unnecessary off-site costs.
Public Health Partnerships
Armor partners with public health agencies to provide services for individuals with HIV/AIDS and sexually-transmitted infections at both correctional facilities and at community levels. This collaboration contributes to the reduction of disease transmission for these infectious diseases within the jail or prison and the community. Armor is one of the leaders in developing these unique programs, which benefits the individual as well as society.
University Partnerships
Armor advocates student training in various health professions in correctional environments. For example, Armor has a successful program with NOVA Southeastern University College of Osteopathic Medicine, which offers correctional medicine clinical rotations for fourth year medical students under the supervision of Armor physicians with academic appointments at the medical school. Armor also has a program that supports nursing students at the University of South Florida and offers them similar clinical experiences. These programs inspire doctors and nurses-in-training with the many rewards of correctional medicine while providing intellectual challenges to the Armor faculty.
Release Coordination
The Armor Coordinated Care Program (ACCP) facilitates the continuity of health care for persons released from our clients' custody. Armor makes arrangements for ongoing health care of soon-to-be released inmates through available community health resources. Since recidivism rates are high, the program allows patients with chronic illnesses to remain clinically stable and mental health patients to remain compliant with their medications when they are released back into the community. This strategy is designed to reduce overall health care costs and reduce recidivism.
Women's Specialty Services
Armor recognizes the special medical and mental health needs of incarcerated women and seeks to meet those needs through programs of prevention, education, support and care. Armor has appointed a Corporate Director of Women's Health to address issues associated with incarcerated women.
Additional Specialty Services
The geriatric community also has its unique challenges. Armor is aware of the increasing age of incarcerated persons and their complex needs. Among Armor's physicians are those with expertise in Geriatric Medicine, including Board Certification in Geriatrics.
Because Armor is a minority-owned company, it is sensitive of the individual needs of the minority populations, especially the growing Hispanic-American population. Armor is committed to cultural diversity and attempts to match the appropriate personnel to meet the onsite needs of each facility.
Responsive Leadership
As part of our client-centered management approach, Regional Vice Presidents, Systems Administrators and Health Services Administrators are empowered to implement strategies for operational improvements at their facilities. Armor's site-level personnel are authorized to maintain flexibility and act quickly to address clients' needs, while providing solutions that reduce cost and maintain quality of care.
Employee Investment
Employee satisfaction is essential to reduce staff turnover, which in turn enhances the quality of health care by maintaining continuity of the services provided. Full-time Armor employees are offered continuing education and professional development opportunities as well as a comprehensive benefits package. Armor is unique in that it is the only national company to provide such a comprehensive Employee Assistance Program and short-term disability coverage in their employee benefits package.
Recruitment
Armor conducts continuous recruitment and staffing initiatives through local, regional, and national advertising. Our professional staff also participates in local and national physician and allied health care conferences. The recruitment and placement of multidisciplinary health care professionals, often in hard-to-reach locations, is a core business function that Armor achieves on an ongoing basis.
